The injured officers were treated at a local hospital. The incident began at about 9:30 when three Suquamish tribal officers responded to a report of a disturbance and gunshots fired on Newton Street in Suquamish. Arriving at the home, the officers were confronted by a 34-year-old career criminal with a warrant out for his arrest, said Suquamish Police Chief Mike Lasnier. Police said the offender has an extensive criminal record, with nine prior felony convictions for violent crimes, burglary, drug dealing and possession of drugs, as well as assault and intimidating witnesses. When he confronted the officers, there was a warrant out for his arrest for escape from community custody on drug charges. Both officers struck by the offenders car were injured, and were rushed to Harrison Hospital for treatment. After recovering from their injuries, the officers will be on administrative duties, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings. Both officers are veterans of the department with more than seven years of service each.
